Central to Mike Skidmore’s approach is the evocative shadow and light, portraits with character, and sometimes a narrative running through the picture.
Over 350 people visited our three-day “Joyous” Art Sale and enjoyed the beautifully presented paintings by 14 artists of the club. Sales were good: 24 artworks, 85 cards, and 4 craft items were sold, and we raised £105 from art materials donated by members. Thank you all who contributed by showing your artwork, helping to set up and being on hand to welcome visitors.
On 10 October we enjoyed a sketching day at Moulsford with members from the Watercress Artists of Ewelme. There were ten of us from the two clubs, the sun shone and the wind blew which made finding a sheltered location with a good view difficult, but in the end we all achieved a sketch(s) or a painting.

A small group of members visited the Stanley Spencer gallery in Cookham, Bucks. Born in Cookham, Stanley Spencer was a truly distinctive student at the Slade, studying alongside such luminaries as Paul Nash, Dora Carrington and Christopher Nevinson.
We had a stall on the Market Place during BunkFest to promote the club and its events.
An update on Autumn activities, including an exhibition of members’ works at The Great Hall, Cholsey; our stand at the Bunkfest Weekend; ‘en plein air’ painting days; and a live demo on contemporary oils.
