September’s demo on Zoom saw artist, Chris Forsey create a harbour scene in watercolours. Chris is a self-taught painter in watercolour, acrylics and mixed-media and is constantly trying to extend and add to his skills in all water-based painting media.
Chris showed how he composes his image, drawing it out.
This included a demo of how to draw boats accurately, using his ‘figure of 8’ technique (see left).
He aplied various watercolour washes in layers, letting each layer dry and being careful not to overwork any one area. He finished with detailing, whilst still keeping an overall loose and expressive feel. We include his finished and framed image above.

Chris began his art career as an illustrator in a publisher’s studio after studying Graphics in Bristol. He is an elected member of The Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours (RI) and The Society of Graphic Fine Artists (SGFA). He is also a tutor of painting and runs holidays and courses in the UK and abroad.
