Hester Berry gave us a very interesting demo of her approach and style, where she constantly challenges her understanding of painting and explore ways paint can represent effects such as light, time, movement and climate.
She uses the marks available as economically as possible, distilling the image/feeling/moment into what is necessary, so that through objective representation, there is enough room for subjective interpretation.
The recording of the demo has been sent to all members but if you require a link, please contact admin@wallingfordartclub.org.uk
The left hand photo above is of her canvas; in the top right corner is the photo of the subject Hester worked from – the village of Dinan in France, bottom right is Hester’s pallette. If you view the demo, it’s worth keeping an eye on, as she only used one brush and was continually mixing her pre-mixed colours!
The photo on the right is of Hester’s final painting that she sent us a few days after the demo.
