Red Kite goes on display

We were recently asked by Wallingford Town Council to decorate a blank wooden red kite for display as part of the Council’s Red Kite Trail around Wallingford. Tutor, Claire Cross, took charge of it. It’s life size and just about fitted into her car boot!

Morning class members pooled ideas about what to create and decided on an arial ‘bird’s eye’ view of the key highlights of Wallingford. Over the course of a few weeks’ classes, members drew and painted the kite, including a view of the Clumps, wallingford map, the river and bridge, Portcullis shield, and the club’s logo.

Claire successfully delivered the Kite after a last tidy up and three coats of varnish! Cllr Acreman was very pleased and said we had all done a great job. He is hoping to place ours on the Kinecroft. There will be a QR code leading to Wallingford Info, Red Kite Info and also to the Club’s website.

Shown below are photos of the project from the first splashes of paint, and work in progress, to the finished article. It looks great and it was so nice to get the whole group involved. Mike wanted a title so Claire suggested ‘Wings over Wallingford.’
