Bahamian cafe life, Geoff Johnson

Art has always been a passion of mine and I studied Fine Art at Loughborough University, before becoming an art teacher at secondary school.

After teaching on the Isle of Wight for over 20 years, a change was needed and I went to work in the Bahamas. Whilst the sun and sea was wonderful, the school had little resources or materials for art, but we did the best with what we had. I used the local area for inspiration and the only materials I could take with me: my watercolours.

Working there was quite different to being on holiday. There were a lot of social problems, and whilst not paying taxes seemed attractive, the downside being there were no emergency services or NHS!

I am now retired, living in Watlington and continue to use landscapes and nature as stimulus for my paintings.
