Nick Shanagher reports that nine WADAC members joined the Watercress Painters on a visit to William Morris’s countryside home at Kelmscott Manor – near the source of the Thames – in April.
Outdoor sketching was limited by a persistent cold wind and sharp showers. But we enjoyed visiting the house, which is filled with a small but impressive collection of lovely family possessions and artworks.
The group split up for lunch, with some enjoying the fine cafe at Kelmscott and others enjoying the wonderful local pub. The manor house is surrounded by a lovely garden and some parkland.
There is an activity centre and shop – both of a high standard. His favourite piece was the embroidered bedspread on William’s bed. The Club has another outing planned with the Watercress Painters later in June for plein air painting in Nettlebed.
